Yesterday was my kids' first day back to school. This will be a big transition year for both of them.
Jacob is in 5th grade now so next year, he'll start middle school (shudder).
I actually got a little tearful when I picked him up on the last day of 4th grade (and it wasn't because of the mountains of school paperwork he was bringing home either. School paperwork has its own category for pain, now doesn't it?). I realized that we'd be all done with elementary school after this year. Their elementary school has been amazing for both of my kids and the thought that neither of them would be going there after this school year hit me harder than I expected it would. Probably at the end of this school year, I'll be a puddle on the floor and completely embarrass my son.
Olivia is in 8th grade so she'll be starting high school next year (double shudder). Time seems to just be flying by and I want to try to enjoy every minute that I have with them. Regardless of all the eye rolling I might be getting right now. I have to say though, that I won't miss her middle school. At all.
I've also been enrolled in Sheffield's Complete Course in Interior Design for awhile now.
I would like to eventually transition into the design field. I thought that this would be a good place start since I want to learn more of the technical and business side of design. I chose Sheffield because they give you three years to finish the program and it's affordable. Although, at the rate I'm going, I might need six years.
You know that saying about if you want something done give it to a busy person? Well, you can give it to a busy person and then she'll have one more thing on her plate when her plate was already pretty full to begin with and then she'll feel like she sucks, really hard, at everything she's supposed to be doing. Including blogging. Pile on top of that her yearly, "I think I want to sell the house and move kids," indecisive drama and it leads to a whole lot of thinking and a whole lot of getting nothin' done.
I haven't really made any concrete decisions yet, about moving, but I keep thinking that if we do move in the near future, how much more time and effort do I want to put into this house? My kids are perfectly content here and when I talk with them about the possibility of moving, Olivia just wants to make sure she gets a big enough room and that we don't move too far from her friends. Oh yes, and Wi-Fi, she wants to be sure that if we move, our new house will have Wi-Fi. Jacob would like to have a house with stairs and a yard big enough for goats, chickens and cows.
I do have some projects planned though, because I hit the mother lode of mother lodes at ReStore this past weekend! Our ReStore is planning on moving locations at the end of September so they were having a 75% off sale (that I was completely unaware of) when I went this past Saturday. The thrift store gods smiled on me and I found some great deals on things that I had been searching for for months.
I'll show you my great finds and let you know my plans for them in my next post. I'll also be showing you one of the arm pits of my house that's going to be getting a makeover that I am super excited about!
A big virtual hug to Jessica at Home With Baxter, who was sweet enough to leave me a comment and ask me to come back to blogging because she missed my posts. :)
Jessica is a former financial planner turned blogger and interior decorator extraordinaire after she decided to follow a more creative path. I love everything that she designs, her blog, and her adorable dog, Baxter. Thanks Jess!
Until next time (and I promise it will be sooner than a month).
